1. How does Orsino come to know of the Lady Olivia?

3. Why does Olivia choose not to see people for seven years, because of her brother's death?

4. How does Viola fall in love with Orsino so quickly?

5. Why does Olivia have a fool?

6. How does Olivia fall so quickly in love with Viola(Cesario)?

  1. Question #5: It was common in England for noble families to have jesters and fools to keep the noblemen entertained. We know that Olivia is of high social status, so it would the make sense that there is a Fool hanging around the manor.

  2. 3. She claims that's the reason, but it's really because now that he's dead the whole estate is hers and she wants to keep it that way as long as possible.

  3. 5. I believe the fool was originally her brother's, and when he died, Olivia kept him around because he was the only one who understood the loss, and kept her on her toes enough to distract her.
